ZealHost | Passionate About Hosting

Background History

ZealHost began of a one man's endless search for a good company to host his personal websites. After changing hosts many times he realised how frustrating it was to find a decent webhost. ZealHost was born out of that realisation - and now tries to epitomise everything a webhost should be. The clients grew and so did the staff, however ZealHost still has the strong backbone and belief it has had since the beginning.

Instant Account Activation

We believe that once you pay for something, you should get the product immediately and not wait around for a sales assistant to set up your account manually. With ZealHost once you have completed your order set-up is instant and you will receive all your information through email.

Why are we so cheap? What's the catch?

Cheap is such an awful word, as it suggests less quality, but not here! Our prices are low because we can afford to give you products at that price. Our profit margin is marginal at best, this is because the owner of ZealHost started this company with one thing in mind - YOU. ZealHost wants to help you get out in the digital world and grow. The catch is that once you use our services, you couldn't bare to leave!

Dreamhost not so dreamy
For all those thinking about taking advantage of those gr8 Dreamhost codes below this post, think again. Their reliability has been in the toilet since early to mid 2006.

Sucks to be me, though. I'm addicted to the large amounts of domains, disk space, and databases that I get for $20/mo, and I refuse to use a host that doesn't offer shell access.

If anyone knows another, more reliable host that offers the following minimums in the $20/mo range, I'd like to hear about it.
  • 10GB space
  • 100GB transfer
  • 20-25 domains
  • 20-25 MySQL databases
  • shell access, and not in some shitty chroot jail
  • PHP5 (for MediaWiki)
  • been around long enough to have a reputation
Please speak up if you know somebody. Bluehost and Lunarpages didn't cut it last I checked. Pair Networks has beautiful uptime, but is VERY expensive.

I'm sure as many of you have noticed there aren't really...any top model websites.  Well since I got absolutely tired of my old website (here), I wanted to make a new one.  I've loved top model from the beginning and I want to make a place with a large (hopefully HQ) gallery and lots of information.

Someone hosts my  other site.  So, I was wondering if I set up a paypal account would people be willing to donate just a dollar or two to keep the site going?  I want to go with this hosting.aplus.net where I can get up to 190GB storage, 250GB Monthy Transfer, and up to 3600 e-mail addresses (don't really know why i'd need that many but whatever).  It's usually 10 bucks a month and there's a set up fee of 20 bucks.  I'd rather pay annually so I 1)don't have to worry about it for every month and 2)then I don't have to pay the 20 bucks setup fee.  It's like 120 bucks a year. Is anyone willing to help?

I’m not in the habit of complaining publicly about a company I’ve had dealings with, but in mulling it over I’ve decided that I’d prefer to air my grievances publicly. In doing so I hope that some potential webhosting customers will see and decide against giving their hard earned cash to these people.

I’ve been hosted with Solid Internet for three years and before that, two years with Myacen (the same company). In that time there have been a number of prolonged outages, always blamed on a third party software provider or service. While annoying this is not my main gripe with Telewest (who also provide domain registration through LiveRegistry). My problem with the company is the owners attitude toward his customers, namely that he refuses to take responsibility for his failure to test new software (which he has publicly admitted) before installing it on production servers and, should you complain you’re met with sarcasm and no help, if you ever actually get a response (you can read his new responses to one customer here).

As a customer of Solid Internet I am only able to get help on any problems with my site via the forums, I understood this from the beginning and have no problem with it. What I do have a problem with, however, is that I’m unable to gain support via the forums because my username has been removed from the user group that allows access to the support forums. Not only this, but I’ve so far waited three days to be added to this group, meanwhile my site has been inaccessible.

I was first attracted to Solid Internet because they provided a cheap service, unfortunately it has become clearer and clearer that this is a situation where you get what you pay for.

(reposting this because the deal has changed, for the better!)
I host a couple of domains over at Dreamhost and they've really been an outstanding webhost.

Their Level 1 Plan, their cheapest, which is $7.95 a month, includes 20GB of space and EVERY WEEK THEY INCREASE IT BY 160MB! Wild! Also, Level 1 includes 1TB of bandwidth and EVERY WEEK IT INCREASES BY 8GB! How cool is that! That really is an insane amount of space and bandwidth. They have really great reviews on other websites, and 99.9% uptime. Other hosts can't compare. You can also host an UNLIMITED number of domains. I can't even describe how cool that is.

I have Promotional Codes that equal $50.00 OFF any hosting package with Dreamhost! Just enter the code for your plan when you sign up.

cPanel Multiple Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability
Vulnerability: Cross Site Scripting / Cookie-Theft / Relogin attacks

Severity: Medium/High

cPanel (control panel) is a graphical web-based management tool, designed
to make administration of web sites as easy as possible. cPanel handles
all aspects of website administration in an easy-to-use interface.
The software, which is proprietary, runs on a number of popular RPM-based
Linux distributions, such as SuSE, Fedora, Mandriva, CentOS, Red Hat
Enterprise Linux, and cAos, as well as FreeBSD. cPanel is commonly
accessed on ports 2082 and 2083 (for a SSL version). Authentication is
either via HTTP or web page login. cPanel is prone to cross-site scripting
attacks. This problem is due to a failure in the application to properly
sanitize user-supplied input

Google Paying for Firefox Installs
"Google updated their AdSense service to pay publishers for referrals. What's interesting is that now they pay publishers $1 US for each FireFox download with the Google Toolbar installed. Is this the bump that Firefox needs to boost downloads? Will Google be able to pay the millions for all the downloads?"

My own dmoz.org or how to improve website PR in one click.

Everybody knows - google pagerank is one the keys to website success. More pages links to you - more visitors you get from google. I only know three websites with 10/10PR - google itself, w3c and adobe. You can find lots of offers to link exchange but this requires lots of reciprocal links on your website and can deface website look and of course it is unacceptable for e-commerse websites. So we need to find a way to place direct links to website.

The best and easy way - add your website into "web directories" like dmoz. But looks like their editors don't hasten to add websites for free. So I think twice and built my own theme park, with blackjack and hookers! - Links4us.com - my own free web directory. It looks quite empty, but already indexed by google and MSN :) So join to us and enjoy!
